What The Different Pleas Mean in Traffic Court

There are three options for how to plead when you get a traffic ticket. You can plead guilty, not guilty, or no contest.

Guilty – admitting to the charges

Not Guilty – not admitting to the charges

No Contest – admitting to the charges but with this plea the charges cannot be used against you later in a civil action.

Pleading Not Guilty will allow you to have the option for a trial to argue against the charges and it is your best bet to avoid paying the fine and having the ticket go on your driving record. When you plead not guilty you have the option for an in person court trial where you can represent yourself or hire an attorney to represent you (court appointed counsel not available for traffic infractions such as stop sign or speeding ticket), or you can opt for a Trial by Written Declaration in which you do not have to make an appearance in court. The beauty of a Trial by Written Declaration is that if you are found guilty you can request for a new trial and still have an in person court trial. –  blog submitted by staging-vadusuxe.kinsta.cloud, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.
