There is a bill working its way through that would increase fines in school zones, and, oddly enough allow them to be enforced even when schools out or no kids are around.

The bill, titled SB632, would: reduce school zone speed from 25 mph to 15, expand the zone to within 1,300 feet from schools, and allow them to operate 24-hour, 7-days-a-week. This bill is opposed by the Automobile Club of Southern California.
