Red Light Camera Bill May Eliminate Certain Rights

Many cities all across California are no longer using red light camera enforcement. Many believe this is due to the fact cities are losing money since so many red light camera tickets are being thrown out by judges.

A new California Assembly Bill (666) introduced by Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, seeks to make red light camera tickets administrative tickets. As reported by OC Weekly those who are not in favor of the bill believe it:

•     Eliminates Your Right to a Trial if You Get a Red Light Camera Ticket
•     Makes You Responsible for the Ticket Even When Someone Else Is Driving
•     Sets up “Administrative Hearing” Courts Run By Those Who Gave You the Ticket
•     Makes it so no Evidence Other than the Ticket Itself is Needed to Convict You
•     Leaves no Right to Face Your Accuser
•     Makes it so you Are Assumed Guilty and Have to Prove Your Innocence
•     Makes it so You Will Have to Pay a Fee If You Want Your Case Heard in Court
•     Expands the Use of Photo Enforcement to Other Traffic Violations
